About this property

Welcome to The Z Hotel Shoreditch

The Z Hotel Shoreditch offers minimalist, compact rooms outfitted with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and smart TVs, designed for guests seeking practical comfort at a budget-friendly price. While rooms are generally described as clean and well-equipped, some reviews note that basement rooms lack windows and can feel warm, with noise from nearby subway trains being audible. Bathrooms feature frosted glass partitions, which may suit solo travelers better than those sharing with friends or colleagues.

Located at 136-144 City Rd in the vibrant Shoreditch area, the hotel is well placed for visitors interested in the nearby tech industry hub, the “Silicon Roundabout,” and the district’s collection of hip cafes, cocktail bars, and gastropubs. Public transportation links are excellent, with Old Street underground station just steps away, making it easy to reach central London attractions like St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, and Tower Bridge within a short journey.

Facilities include a cafe, bar, and restaurant onsite, though there is no parking, airport shuttle, pool, or fitness center. The property is accessible and kid-friendly but does not accommodate pets. Guests often highlight the helpful and polite staff, with positive remarks about customer service and thoughtful touches such as luggage handling and accommodating special requests.

This hotel suits travelers seeking a straightforward, centrally located base with modern essentials rather than extensive amenities. Its practical design and solid location appeal particularly to those attending business events near Shoreditch or exploring London’s creative and historic quarters.

We frequently stay here for work with our toddler. The rooms are small and basic but the location is great and the staff are fantastic. We once had a problem with a wrong room and a glitchy TV but it was quickly resolved. The team handled the issue with clear and polite communication demonstrating their excellent customer service. We stay in a lot of hotels and think the service trumps the the other local 5 star hotels.

Traveled for a concert so we stayed there 3 nights. The Hotel itself is very nice and clean. The room was clean and comfortable too. Unfortunately the basement rooms are tiny and don’t have any windows so it can get pretty hot plus you can hear the subway moving below. I don’t have problems sleeping with noise so it was no problem for me just very weird. The staff was friendly too. The hotel is very close to the subway and there’s also a lot of buses that take you to the center in like 20 minutes. There’s also a lot of cafes and an Aldi very close.

Stayed here for a special weekend celebrating my daughter's birthday (her actual birthday was the previous week, and she lives nearby in Bethnal Green, so it was the perfect excuse for a mum-daughter London adventure!). The location is brilliant - an easy walk from Liverpool Street Station, and right in the heart of Shoreditch. I arrived early, and the staff were lovely about storing my bag. When I came back later, they'd already taken it up to my room without me even asking - those little touches really made a difference. Everyone we encountered was genuinely friendly and professional throughout the stay. The room itself was compact but spotlessly clean and had everything I needed for a short break. My only tiny critique would be that the bathroom is separated by frosted glass rather than a solid door - not an issue for me travelling solo, but might be awkward if you're sharing with a friend or colleague. That aside, it's fantastic value for money and the perfect base for exploring. We packed so much in - Kricket, Gloria, Duke of York Theatre, ABBA Voyage, pie and mash, breakfast at E Pellicci, and cocktails at Satan's Whiskers. The hotel made it all easy and stress-free. Would definitely recommend for a fun London weekend!

Great hotel very close to Old Street Station. Rooms are clean, well equipped and cosy. Check in was easy and the staff are great! Kettle in the room, plenty of plug sockets and a USB socket in the wall. Bed was very comfortable, with air conditioning in the room! Will definitely stop here again!

Pro’s - Great location and friendly staff. - High quality rooms - they’re small, but they list the size when you book, so it’s not exactly a surprise… - Free cheese and wine (or 0% beer if you’re alcohol free like us! ) every night for members. - Sky sports and movies included on a whopping great TV for the size of room. - Tea and coffee facilities are good quality. - Shower products smell nice. - Full blackout blinds mean it’s darker than the dark side of the moon. Cons - The room we stayed in had some black mould around the windows (both the original exterior windows and the newer, interior windows). - Soundproofing isn’t as good as some other places. - The Air Con seems to have gained sentience and decides when it wants to be on and off

Z hotel was incredibly accommodating to special requests I made while my husband was there on a work trip. He arrived on his birthday so I asked if they could leave him a note and they went above and beyond with helping me surprise him. They were so responsive and accommodating. It’s amazing to find a hotel that feels like they are genuinely trying to make the experience the best possible.

The hotel is close to the underground station. Just 2 stops from Kings Cross. In an area that is not too busy but you can find shops and restaurants nearby. The rooms are compact. You can sit on the bed or downstairs if you want to stay inside. The breakfast is recommended. They have some other dishes during the day, like wine and cheese. Or pizza.

I have stayed in a number of Zhotels across London in recent months & discovering this chain has removed all the stress of visiting London! The locations are always on/adjacent to major streets with unrivalled transport connections on the doorstep. Some other reviews have described the rooms on the small side but I find they more than compensate for this with a well thought out ergonomic design. The mattresses & bedding are notably high quality; I've had nothing short of a perfect night's sleep during every visit. Shoreditch is currently my favourite location as it offers a respite from the usual tourist hotspots whilst still being within walking/cycling distance of them. The bar/lounge/reception is always clean & welcoming; the staff often go out of their way to ensure the satisfaction of their guests. I'm particularly grateful to Hazil on reception who went out of his way to provide perfect sized packaging to send something back to Leeds during a recent stay.
